Road Bridges, Shoalhaven NSW
Teleo Design was engaged by Shoalhaven Council to replace 2 dilapidated bridges. These bridges were located on gravel roads and provided local traffic access. The bridges were located in Jaspers Brush near Berry and Budgong near Kangaroo Valley
Teleo designed the bridges with main steel girders and precast deck panels. The bridges are nominally 10m span single lane units. Council did not require barriers for the bridges due to the low clearance and likelihood of flooding. The bridges were designed for 60km.h SM1600 vehicle loads.
The Jaspers Brush bridge was constructed on buttress headstocks supported onto rock. The existing abutments were found to be large boulder fill that needed to be removed for the new footings. The bridge deck was installed in one day with the approaches backfilled and completed the next day.
The Budgong bridge did not have issues with the footings. The old bridge was demolished and the new footings constructed and bridge installed and opened to traffic 16 days after possession of site.
